🎖5 Golden Rules For More Productive Mammas 🏅
24 hours a day are not enough when you’re a Mom. You literally have time to do NOTHING. To be honest, the worst part is allocating time for myself and my husband! I used to do things one day at time, I never planned or set rules… Until I realized how unproductive I was and how things are dragging and dragging and dragging and… Anyway, I used to wake up after a week of unfinished tasks and get Krazy! So I came up with some rules for myself, my boy and my house that helped me get things done, be more productive AKA use wisely the 24 hours allocated to me and of course keep my sanity.
RULE #1: WAKE UP EARLY! BEFORE YOUR CHILD DOES
30 minutes are more than enough. Take your shower, drink your coffee, get ready so that when your child wakes up the only thing you have to do is get dressed if you’re going out. You have no idea how beneficial this is! You are at your productivity peak in the morning; unlike afternoons. Take afternoons for chilling with the kids and your husband. You need some free time during the day for birthdays, play dates, appointments… Set an Alarm, don’t wait for your child to wake you up. And don’t forget, waking up early calls for sleeping early.
Things I do in the early morning: I take my mini shower, I prepare all the ingredients of the meal I will be cooking later on, check Instagram (oops), read my emails and go through my tasks (I’ll tell you how I organize my tasks, events and reminders in one amazing app)
RULE #2: STICK TO SOME ROUTINE AND HABITS
Stick to waking up early and doing the above! Follow a routine! Daily and weekly! Set a detailed daily schedule for your family and stick to it. Lunch time, Dinner time, nap time, shower time and bed time.
My way: babyT wakes up at 7:00 (I know, I’m lucky), breakfast at 8:30, lunch at 12:00, naps at 12:30, snacks at 16:00, bath at 19:00, dinner at 19:30, sleeps at 20:00. It wasn’t the case before, at all... until I started this routine and stick to it.
For cooking mammas like myself, set 2 or 3 days per week to cook all the week meals (It worked for me and 2 meals took the same amount of time as 1) Even this, include it in your routine and stick to it. Set a timing for your cooking: morning or afternoon! I choose morning! With my rule#3 ⬇⬇, it takes me 10 minutes in the morning to finalize whatever I’m cooking that day. You skipped cooking today? RULE #3 PREPARE EVERYTHING AHEAD OF TIME AND TAKE IT EASY
First: Prepare a weekly menu. I do it every Sunday. I used to wake up every day stressing about what I’m gonna cook for today and when? Now, I prepare a weekly meal menu with all the ingredients that I will be using and ready ahead of time.
Second: I cook 2 days per week: Monday and Wednesday. On Sunday, I make sure all the ingredients are ready. I usually pick easy meals for Mondays because it’s just Monday! I go through my meal plan and start preparing for Wednesday. I do my stock, marinades and whatever I need for Wednesday…
Last thing: This is personal and depends on your passion for kitchens and cooking, but seriously, I know we have to provide food for the family and we have to provide good nutritional food, but that doesn’t mean we have to cook things that takes a lot of time, effort and are risky! NO! Take it easy, look for easy nutritional meals and recipes. And remember, your mom is here… USE HER.
RULE #4 TAKE ONE DAY OFF
If you’re a working mom, it’s ok to take your Saturday off. Stay home and spend quality time with your kids! You need that energy!
RULE #5 USE YOUR SMARTPHONE AS YOUR AGENDA
Your smartphone is here for many purposes other than taking pics and checking Instagram.
Use it as your personal agenda and a digital notebook. I never use notebooks BTW I do everything with and on my phone. Google calendar ios - google play for instance is an amazing app for your events, birthdays, appointments and it has built in reminders that won’t disappear before you mark them done—don’t let them drag!
